Doctor Who: The Celestial Toymaker

This Doctor Who story was first broadcast in four episodes in 1966. Episodes 1-3 are missing from the BBC Archives.

This audio version consists of a digitally remastered soundtrack with linking narration provided by Peter Purves.

The story was originally written by Brian Hayles although there were major, though uncredited, rewrites by Donald Tosh and Gerry Davis.

Hayles would go on to write several more serials for the programme and is probably best known for creating the Ice Warriors.

An alien intelligence has invaded the TARDIS and rendered the Doctor invisible, leaving Dodo Chaplet and Steven Taylor incredulous. They step outside into a strange realm where the Doctor reappears, saying he recognises the place they are in. They have come to the realm of the Celestial Toymaker, an eternal being of infinite power who sets games and traps for the unwary so that they become his toys and playthings.

This is regarded by many as a classic and Michael Gough give a memorable performance as the Toymaker.
